Richard W. Durkes is a Managing Director in the Investment Banking Group of Sandler O’Neill + Partners, L.P. He serves as a strategic advisor to banks and thrifts, asset managers, broker-dealers, exchanges and securities clearing firms. Mr. Durkes has 30 years of investment banking experience and been involved in hundreds of strategic transactions for financial companies.
Prior to joining Sandler O’Neill in 2002, Mr. Durkes was a Global Managing Director and Head of Equities and Investment Banking at ABN Amro Inc. Mr. Durkes also spent 15 years at predecessor The Chicago Corporation before it was acquired by ABN Amro. He was also Chief Executive Officer of First City Bancshares and started his career at The Northern Trust Co.
Mr. Durkes’ recent transaction experience at Sandler O’Neill includes The Clearing Corporation’s sale to Intercontinental Exchange, Inc., Industrial Bank of China on its acquisition of Fortis Securities LLC from BNP Paribas. He also advised Grupo Santander on its “going private” transaction of its publicly traded banking subsidiary in Puerto Rico.
Mr. Durkes holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Henderson Global Funds and serves on the Jefferson Scholars Fellowship Selection Committee, University of Virginia.
