John Butler

Managing Director, Investment Banking

John Butler is a Managing Director in the Investment Banking Group at Sandler O’Neill + Partners, L.P. He specializes in providing strategic advice to insurance underwriters, wholesale and retail insurance brokers and other insurance service providers, including MGAs, TPAs and warranty companies. Mr. Butler has more than 15 years of experience as an investment banker to the financial services industry.

Prior to joining Sandler O'Neill, Mr. Butler served as Head of Insurance Investment Banking and Managing Director at Piper Jaffray & Co., where he where he focused on merger and acquisition advisory and capital raising transactions for the insurance industry. Prior to joining Piper Jaffray, Mr. Butler was a senior investment banker in the Financial Institutions Groups at Houlihan Lokey and at Fox-Pitt, Kelton. Previously, Mr. Butler was a practicing attorney focused on corporate law and securities matters.

Mr. Butler holds a JurisDoctor from the Fordham University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Georgetown University. He is a contributing author of Insurance Industry Mergers & Acquisitions, published by the Society of Actuaries.
